Fatal Accident Near Interstate 80

PENFIELD – A Warren man was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident that occurred on state Route 153 at the intersection of state Route 8006 on Monday.

Charles LeRoy Confer Jr., 46, was traveling south on SR 153 when he attempted to make a left turn onto SR 8006. Confer failed to negotiate the turn, and his vehicle overturned onto the passenger side, then to the roof.

Confer was hauling a tanker full of diesel fuel. As a result of the accident, a large amount of diesel fuel leaked from the tanker. The leak was later contained.

Pennsylvania State police Clearfield were assisted PennDOT, Clearfield County Emergency Management Agency, Clearfield Emergency Management Services, Eagle Environmental, Clearfield, Hyde, and Lawrence Township Volunteer Fire Departments, the Department of Environmental Protection, and fire police.
