CLEARFIELD – The fire that destroyed the Casteel residence on Clover Hill Road in Lawrence Township was ruled an act of arson, according to a report from the state police fire marshal.
No suspects have been named in the Casteel fire.
According to a prior GantDaily report, the Casteel family was out of town when the fire occurred on Aug. 12 around 2:30 a.m. Five vehicles were destroyed in the fire, including a 1987 Ford Mustang GT, a 1986 Buick Grand National, a 2006 Scion, a 2002 Subaru Impreza and a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche.
Hyde Fire Co. Chief Josh Quigley said that at the time, damage in the Casteel fire was estimated at $500,000.
This was one of three fires that occurred on Aug. 12. One fire occurred on Fire Tower Road in Lawrence Township. That fire was deemed an arson as well. John Hainsey of Clearfield was arrested for allegedly setting the camp on fire. He is currently in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $100,000 straight bail.
The third fire took place on Bigler Avenue in Clearfield Borough. That fire was ruled an arson.
