PHILIPSBURG – Three months ago, Philipsburg Area Hospital closed their doors for good, forcing hundreds from their jobs and making countless others turn to other health care facilities for their medical needs.
Now the clock is running on the hospital itself and whether it will be sold.
Buyers have through today to purchase the former state hospital with debts totaling more than $8 million.
The best option for the hospital’s creditors would be for a buyer to purchase the building, its contents and resume the lease from the state. If that doesn’t happen, however, the contents of the hospital will be auctioned off separately.
Centurion Service Group LLC and Clear Bid Inc. are the agent and auctioneer for the hospital, and barring any last-minute purchase, an auction will be held Tuesday.
Peter Hartheimer, vice president of sales for Clear Bid Inc., said interested buyers will be able to inspect the equipment Monday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. with the auction starting Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the hospital.
Items for the auction can also be inspected online at www.clearbid.com. Click on “Philipsburg Area Hospital” under the sales heading.
A listing of each piece of equipment can also be found at www.centurionservice.com/index-2.html
The Philipsburg Area Hospital, a 50-bed facility, was reopened by Moshannon Valley Citizens Inc. in December 1992. The Philipsburg State General Hospital, the center’s former name, was forced to close in March 1991.
