Curwensville 13-14 Teeners Open With Win

CURWENSVILLE — The Curwensville Teener League 13-and-14 All-Stars got off to a good start in the VFW Area VI Tournament by coming from behind twice and then holding off Punxsutawney 9-7 at the Curwensville Area High School diamond Thursday evening.

Lefthander Wes McGary pitched a three-hitter for the victory, striking out four and walking six.

McGary also led the offense with three singles, while Jed Greslick tripled and singled and Derek Brothers, Shae Best and Nick Opalisky singled.

After Punxsy scored two runs in the top of the first inning, the hosts answered with a three-run outburst. Each team posted two runs in the third, and the winners turned hits by Brothers and McGary and five walks into four runs in the fifth. That was enough to offset the visitors\’ three runs in the sixth.

Curwensville will play at Philipsburg Friday at 5:30.
