MORRISDALE — Robert Lombardo crushed a pair of three-run homers and Curtis Frye pitched a six-hitter as the Clearfield Little League 11-and-12 All-Stars kept their District 5 Northern Tier championship hopes alive with a 10-2 win over Four-Leaf Clover Saturday evening at the Morrisdale LL Field.
After Beau Swales walked to start the game and Justin Kanouff singled with one out, Lombardo staked Frye to a 3-0 lead by launching a homer over the left field fence and into the Morrisdale Senior LL field.
Jimmy Jordan made it 5-0 in the second with a two-out, two-run homer to left.
Frye, who struck out 10 and walked three, shut out the hosts until Tyler Kephart belted a two-run homer to center in the fifth inning.
Clearfield (2-1) answered with a five-run salvo in the sixth. Cody Lansberry began the rally with a double and scored on a single by Swales. Kanouff singled again before Lombardo slammed a three-run homer to center. Back-to-back doubles by Frye and Levi Picard produced the final run. Lombardo also singled, while Lansberry had two doubles for Clearfield.
Kephart, the starter and loser, and Aaron Lidgett shared the mound duties for Four-Leaf, which was eliminated with a 2-2 record.
Clearfield will host Tri-County Monday at 6 p.m. at McNamee Field for the right to challenge undefeated Philipsburg (3-0) for the tier title.
