CLEARFIELD – The Curwensville Little League 11-Year-Old All-Stars broke up a 4-4 tie with five runs in the fourth inning and went on to defeat Clearfield 12-8 at McNamee Field Friday evening in the first round of the District 5 Tournament.
The first four batters accounted for eight of visitors\’ 12 hits. Curt Bloom had a double and a single, while Josh Bloom, Jeremy McCracken and Connor Jennings had two singles apiece. Jordan Schultz also chipped in with a pair of singles, and John Ireland added a double.
Curt Bloom and Kyle Bloom drove in two runs apiece. McCracken accounted for the other RBI.
Anthony Hile was the winning pitcher, striking out six while allowing seven hits and four walks in four innings. All five Clearfield runs off him were earned. Greslick logged two strikeouts in two innings, giving up four hits and three runs, two of them earned.
Tyler Woomer socked two doubles and a single to pace Clearfield. Nolan Barger, Tanner Ogden and Dalton Cole each had a double and a single, and Christian Stone had two singles. Woomer and Mason Root each had two RBIs. Barger, Ogden, Cole and Ricky Clark drove in the other runs.
Three walks and hits by Schultz, McCracken, Curt Bloom and Jennings enabled Curwensville to take command after Clearfield had come from behind twice to tie the score.
Both teams will play at home Sunday at 6 p.m. Curwensville gets the winner of the Tri-County–State College American game. Clearfield will play the loser.
