HYDE — Adam Sicheri outdueled Brandon Baughman as St. Marys gained ground on Dingers of Clearfield in the chase for second place in the Continental Collegiate Baseball League with a 2-1 victory Sunday evening at the Clearfield Area High School Sports Complex.
All of the runs came in the first inning, back-to-back doubles by Todd Schickling and Cory Bailor staking Dingers to a 1-0 lead. St. Marys answered with a leadoff home run by T.J. Nichols and a trio of two-out singles, Dave Miller driving in the go-ahead run.
Sicheri made it stand up with a five-hitter highlighted by 10 strikeouts. Baughman allowed eight hits, striking out four and walking one.
Philip Solley, Dusty Minarchick and Todd Shaw had singles for Dingers, which fell to 7-4 but remains a game in front of third place St. Marys (4-3).
Dingers will be on the road again next weekend for a 12:30 doubleheader against champion State College and host Lewistown on Saturday and a 3 p.m. game against Coudersport at Kersey on Sunday.
