Allentown — On Saturday June 25th and Sunday the 26th, the Downtown Weightlifting Club (DWC) of Clearfield tied for first place team honors with Joe\’s Gym of Erie, PA at the Anti-Drug Athletes United National Powerlifting Championships.
Four teams entered in the competition that drew 80 lifters from 6 states. The DWC was represented by 5 Clearfield competitors, each winning a national title in their respective age group.
First off was 105 lb., 13 year old Adrianne Zimmerman. Adrianne squatted 155 pounds, bench pressed 100, and deadlifted 215 pounds for a winning total of 470.
In the 114 lb. division was 13 year old Samantha Snyder. Her completed lifts were 125 squat, 85 bench press, and 175 deadlift for a 385 total.
132 pound, 18 year old Matt Kyler, a day before beginning his military career at West Point, lifted 280 pounds in the squat, 135 pounds in the bench press, and deadlifted 355 pounds for a 770 total.
In the 148 lb. class, 19 year old Chris Bloom completed the following lifts: 340 squat, 235 bench press, and 430 deadlift for a 1005 pound total.
The final lifter from Clearfield was team captain Allan Siegel, competing in the 242 pound, 65-69 age group. Competing just 5 months after open heart surgery, Siegel lifted 245 pounds in the squat, 170 pounds in the bench press, and 350 pounds in the deadlift for a 765 pound total. The effort was enough to earn Al his 20th National Masters title. 5 other lifters from around PA rounded out the DWC squad.
