Investigation Launched After 'NATO Air Strike' Kills 7 Security Forces In Afghanistan

Linda Young - AHN Editor

Kabul, Afghanistan (AHN) - NATO and Afghan authorities are investigating a NATO air strike that killed at least seven people on Friday, including four Afghan soldiers and three police officers in Western Afghanistan, defense ministry officials said Saturday.

The incident occurred in the remote Badghis province and more than 25 international and Afghan troops were reportedly injured, including at least five United States soldiers.

However, NATO forces have not yet confirmed the air strike was friendly fire, according to reports.

The incident is believed to have taken place during a search for two missing paratroopers. Searchers had called air support after clashing with Taliban forces.

NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) is investigating the incident. No ISAF forces were killed or injured during the air strike.
