Dodgers Pitcher Padilla Treated For Minor Gunshot Wound In Hunting Accident

AHN Sports Staff

Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Vicente Padilla was treated at a hospital in his native Nicaragua Tuesday after accidentally shooting himself in his right leg.

In a Los Angeles Times report, Adam Katz, Padilla's agent, indicated that the Dodger pitcher spent 30 to 40 minutes at a hospital and released Tuesday.

According to Katz, Padilla was grazed in his right thigh by a bullet during a hunting accident in Nicaragua

Katz added that the 32-year-old right-hander is "fine", the Times reported.

Padilla, who is expected to file for free agency in the coming weeks, was signed by the Dodgers in August after being released outright by the Texas Rangers earlier in the month.

Padilla struggled with the Rangers but  went 4-0 with a 3.20 ERA for the Dodgers in the last two months of the regular season.

After limiting the Philadelphia Phillies to one run over 7 1-3 innings in Game 2 of the NLCS, Padilla was tapped again to start the decisive Game 5.

But he failed to deliver, getting touched for six runs in three innings in the series-ending loss.

Meanwhile, the Times reported that Dodgers hitting coach Don Mattingly, who is being groomed to be Joe Torre's successor, has declined to be interviewed for the Washington Nationals' vacant managerial post.
