Dominic R. Shilala, 94, of DuBois died Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Penn Highlands DuBois. Born Sept. 12, 1922, he was the son of the late Dominic and Elizabeth (Chesnalavich) Shilala.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and he served during World War II.
On May 2, 1953, he married Ann (Felix) Shilala. She survives. They had been married for 64 years.
He retired in 1982 after 37 years of service with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad.
He also worked at Kohlhepp’s True Value Hardware Store for 16 years, as well as S&T Bank and the DuBois Area School District.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, where he had sung in the choir. He was also a member of the former Lithuanian Independence Club.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Shilala of DuBois and Diane Pepitone and her husband, James of Katonah, NY and a son, Dr. Patrick Shilala and his wife, Jane of DuBois. He is also survived by a grandson, Michael Pepitone.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ann Lommock and Nelle, Julia, and Betty Shilala and four brothers, Joseph, Bernard, Sylvester and Terry Shilala.
There will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
Full military honors will be accorded at the church by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorials may be placed with the charity of the donor’s choice.
