Penns Valley Rally Dooms Lady Bison 9-6

HYDE – The Penns Valley girls softball team rallied for six runs over the final two innings to defeat Clearfield, 9-6, at the Bison Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Rams also beat the Lady Bison back on April 13, at Spring Mills, by a score of 11-4.

Penns Valley jumped out with three quick first inning runs to put Clearfield in a hole right from the start.

But coming off the high of winning its first game on Monday against Tyrone, the Lady Bison showed determination and fight to get back into the game and eventually get the lead until the sixth and seventh innings.

However, it was the defense that couldn’t make the big plays as Clearfield committed seven errors on the afternoon that quickly dashed any hopes of winning back to back games.

Nonetheless Clearfield picked up two runs in its first at bat as Brooke Cline led off by picking up a walk with Makeeli Redden following with a booming triple to right field that scored Cline.

Redden then would score on a well executed squeeze bunt from Erica Hanes that cut the Penns Valley edge to 3-2 after one.

Clearfield tied the game at 3-3 with a lone tally in the bottom of the third when Karly Rumsky smacked a double down the left field line and later scored on a Hanes two out single.

The Lady Bison had its biggest inning in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three times to jump out in front 6-3.

With one out in the fifth, Rumsky stroked another double, this time to left center, which was then followed by a Cline RBI double over the center fielder’s head.

Cline and Hanes, who reached on an error, would later score to give the Lady Bison the three run margin heading into the final two frames.

Then the defense of Clearfield committed two errors in each of the final two innings, allowing Penns Valley to score three in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6, and then score three more in the top half of the seventh to win 9-6.

Rumsky paced the Lady Bison offense with the two doubles while the Lady Rams got two hits from Lydia Collison, Ryleigh Cain and Emma Kubalak.

Penns Valley had four doubles, one each from Lydia Collison, Cassidy Stover, Cain and Kubalak.

The Lady Bison (1-14) are at home once again on Wednesday afternoon to battle arch rival Curwensville. Game time is at 3:45 pm.
