Last May, Eclipse Resources, an E&P company in State College that has more than 200 producing Utica wells, drilled a 27,048-foot deep Utica “superlateral” well named Purple Hayes in Guernsey County, Ohio. The lateral arm of the well spanned 18,500 feet, 3.5 miles, the longest lateral ever drilled onshore. The well was drilled in a little over 17 days.
