CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Area United Way offers help with prescription medications.
When you get a free FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card, you can present it to an area pharmacist. They will automatically apply the discount to the cost of your medicine.
Your savings can be an average of 30 percent off of name brands and 75 percent off of generics.
FamilyWize, an organization based in Bethlehem, Pa., is a Community Service Partnership that was established in the fall of 2005 to help residents receive the medicine they need.
“When one out of every four people has trouble buying their medicine, we’re looking for all ways possible to make sure every person in any local community can get the free help provided by these cards,” a FamilyWize spokesman said.
The FamilyWize Web site has been updated and is found at www.familywize.org for anyone with computer access. You can also text the word “family” to 700700 and get a free card or print one off from this CAUW Web site.
According to Familywize, in the past year alone, approximately $40,000 has been realized in eastern, southern and central Clearfield County residents’ prescriptions savings.
“CAUW recently received a framed Community Partnership Award to show the great work being done to advance the common good in the area of health in these Communities …. Over 1,000 United Ways are participating nationwide with FamilyWize,” stated a news release from Nancy Pinto of the Clearfield United Way.
