CURWENSVILLE – The DuBois Central Catholic (DCC) girls basketball team completed the two game season sweep of the Curwensville Lady Tide Monday night at Patton Hall in Curwensville 68-33.
The Lady Cardinals won in DuBois earlier this season, 54-33 and now have an overall record of 12-5.
Four of the DCC defeats have been by a total of 10 points.
Curwensville stuck with the Cardinals through the first six minutes of the opening quarter.
The score was tied five times at numbers 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 before DCC began to pull away.
A 5-0 run at the end of the first quarter put the Lady Cardinals up 17-12 going into the second eight minutes of action.
DuBois Central took command of the encounter in the second period, outscoring the Lady Tide 17-8 to lead at the break, 36-20.
The second quarter for DCC was fueled by a 9-0 run midway through the frame before the Tide picked up a bucket from Madison Olson with 1:24 to go before the intermission.
Curwensville’s offense continued to sputter after halftime, scoring just five third quarter points while giving up 16 more to trail after three, 52-25.
Lady Tide first year head coach Erik Duriancik said afterwards, “In practice it is really tough to simulate their (DCC) pressure and speed. They are a tough team and wear you down as the game progresses.”
Then Duriancik continued, “We have no excuses though. And we battle with the players we have available.”
Curwensville was without the services of starter and senior Shauna Guy, who was ill.
The Lady Cardinals had two players in double figures, Riley Assalone with 14 to lead all scorers and freshman reserve Alyssa Bittner tossing in 12, all in the final quarter.
From the free throw line DuBois Central was eight of nine.
Curwensville freshman Madison Weber paced the Lady Tide offense with 12 tallies.
The Lady Cardinals also won the junior varsity game, by a score of 33-6, over Curwensville.
Curwensville (1-13) will battle the Lady Warriors of West Branch at home on Wednesday night. There will be no JV game and the varsity contest will start at 7 pm.
The Lady Warriors defeated the Lady Tide, 74-27, in mid- December at West Branch.
You can listen to the Curwensville-West Branch Moshannon Valley League game on WOKW-FM, 102.9, starting with the pre-game show at 6:50 pm.
