OGDEN, Utah — Chad Zurat of Clearfield gave up three earned runs in two innings of relief work for the Grand Junction Rockies, who scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull out a 9-6 win over the Ogden Raptors in the Pioneer Rookie League second half opener that attracted 4,530 fans to Lindquist Field Tuesday night.
The Rockies held a 5-0 lead when Zurat replaced starter Kyle Freeland on the mound in the fifth inning. A triple and a wild pitch got the Raptors on the board in that frame, and a walk and a home run got the hosts right back in the game in the sixth inning.
Zurat (2-3) had one strikeout.
His earned run average jumped from 3.56 to 4.18 for 32.1 innings in 11 appearances, six out of the bullpen.
He has allowed 42 hits and 22 runs, 15 earned, with 11 strikeouts, 11 walks and three hit batsmen.
Ogden (19-20) went in front 6-5 with three runs off two Grand Junction (21-18) relievers in the seventh inning, but the Rockies took advantage of a one-out error in the ninth to prevail.
