Obituary Notice: Richard L. Phillips

Richard L. Phillips, 81, of DuBois died Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Christ the King Manor.

Born April 3, 1934, he was the son of the late Clark and Vera Mae (Michael) Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a veteran in the U.S. Army, where he served with the 11th Airborne as a paramedic.

On May 12, 1962, he married Violet M. (Poskanka) Phillips.  She preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 2014.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in the Maintenance Department after 18 years of service. Prior to that, he worked for Railway Express Company for 18 years.

He was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.  He also was a member of the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17, Disabled American Veterans and Trout Unlimited.

He enjoyed fly fishing, hunting and gardening.  He loved to go for walks with his wife.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his children, Robert Phillips of Falls Creek, Karen Myers and her husband, Craig of Winchester, Va., and Susan Christensen and her husband, Todd of Culpeper, Va.; a sister, Josephine Bouch of DuBois; three grandchildren, C.J. and Lauren Myers and Dylan Christensen; two step-grandchildren, Jordan and Joshua Christensen; and one great-grandchild, Jaxon Myers.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Jack and Lloyd Phillips; three sisters, Ruth Ball, Laura Senior and Betty Heberling; and an infant sister, Pauline Phillips.

There will be no public visitation.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Kresinski as celebrant.

Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the church,.

Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Christ the King Manor, 1100 W. Long Ave., and or Penn Highlands Hospice, 100 Hospital Ave., both in DuBois, PA 15801.
