CLEARFIELD – The preliminary hearing was continued until Aug. 5 for a man accused of rape during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Demmin D. McKinney, 40, of Clearfield has been charged with rape/forcible compulsion; involuntary deviate sexual intercourse/forcible compulsion; IDSI/threat forcible compulsion; and indecent assault. Bail has been set at $50,000.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Clearfield Borough police received a report about an alleged rape March 26, which had occurred the previous night. Further, the victim alleged to police that the male suspect was known to her as “Dwayne McKenze.”
The victim also showed police a contusion on her right arm, which the defendant had allegedly caused a few days prior. She told police it was not reported previously because the defendant “sweet-talked her” and said everything was OK.
The victim requested and received an emergency Protection from Abuse Order through the district magistrate’s office. Upon attempting to serve the PFA, police were unable to properly identify the defendant as the name given by the victim.
When several, different names and birthdates were given police transported the defendant to the jail in order to use the live scan system to identify him. Upon arrival to the jail, the defendant provided police with his correct name, “Demmin McKinney,” and birthdate.
McKinney allegedly told police he had fled from a halfway house after serving eight years for rape. He said he was wanted by state parole for fleeing from the halfway house for a forcible rape of a person less than 16 years old. McKinney also told police he’s been using online dating sites to meet women to “remain on the run.”
When police properly identified the defendant as McKinney, he was transported back to the Clearfield Borough police station. Police then contacted state parole officials who advised they would pick up McKinney.
On March 27, police requested the victim to come into the station for an interview. During the interview, she alleged that McKinney forcibly raped her, and she asked him to stop about four times. The victim also alleged that she didn’t give consent to McKinney before the incident.
