CLEARFIELD – A Potter Baseball Community Service Day will take place in Clearfield on July 16 through the efforts of the Potter Baseball Traveling Team, Clearfield Baseball Association and a partnership with the Clearfield Revitalization Corp. (CRC).
The team’s players, ages 13-15 years, will participate at 10:30 a.m. in the “Every Hero has a Story” at the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library by reading at the summer reading program.
They will also participate in refurbishing the gazebo, light poles and picnic area in Lower Witmer Park.
Clearfield’s visit will be one of a 24-day tour, as their baseball games in each town are complemented by community service. The tour takes them all over Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland.
Potter baseball head coach Jeff Potter stated, “This is a great community, and we look forward to returning to Clearfield to take on this project.”
CRC’s Main Street Manager, Loretta Wagner commented, “Potter Baseball reiterates everything the CRC stands for, which is bringing out the best of a community.
“In this case, it was incorporating the teen boys with community service in downtown Clearfield. Taking part in making the park beautiful is part of life skills that are valuable for the kids to learn. In a setting like downtown, it is fun for the boys and a value to our small town businesses.”
There will be a Little League Baseball Clinic from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. It will be held at the Lawrence Township Recreational Park for players who are ages 8-12 years. You can pre-register by calling Coach Lansberry at 814-765-5449 or by e-mailing lansb@penn.com.
Those players who do not pre-register should report at 1:45 p.m. The cost of the clinic is $10 (any checks should be made payable to Clearfield Baseball Association).
A portion of the clinic proceeds will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Clinic instructors will be Penn State Dubois Baseball Coaches Tom Calliari and Paul Hetrick, along with Bison coaches Brandon Billotte, Adam Jury, Dave Learish and several area college players.
At 5:30 p.m., the Potter Baseball Team will play the Clearfield Jim’s Sports Center Team at the Lawrence Township Recreational Park with Bobby Day as the Master of Ceremonies.
