CLEARFIELD – A Hyde man will stand trial for pulling a gun and threatening to kill another man.
Thomas Stephen Scott, 49, 1407 Vaughn St., Hyde, is charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and harassment as a result of an incident in Lawrence Township on June 19. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing June 24 during centralized court. He remains in the Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Scott knocked on the door of the victim’s residence at 9 a.m. that morning. Scott then spoke with the victim on the front porch. He accused him of being responsible for suspending him from the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Clearfield the night before.
After a verbal altercation, Scott did brandish a revolver with a brown handle and black stainless steel barrel. He pointed the gun directly in the face of the victim while stating he was there to kill him. This statement was also heard by a witness who was inside the residence.
The verbal confrontation continued and eventually, Scott put the gun down and began to walk toward his vehicle. As he did this, he pointed the revolver at the victim approximately three more times while warning him that he needed to watch his back and again threatened to kill him.
Later that evening, police received information that Scott was at a tavern on Third Street in Clearfield. When they arrived, they saw Scott walking to his vehicle. He was taken into custody and searched.
Officers found he was in possession of a silver pipe, a baggy containing a green leafy substance and five pills later identified as oxycodone. As a result of this, Scott is facing additional charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana, knowingly or intentionally possessing a controlled or counterfeit substance by person not registered and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also waived his right to a hearing in this case.
As a result of the incident at the Eagles in Clearfield Borough on June 18, Scott is charged with a felony count of possession of firearm prohibited, a felony count of firearms not to be carried without a license, terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing in this case Wednesday. His bail is $50,000.
According to the affidavit in that case, at 9:20 p.m., Scott confronted that victim, about coming up behind him and threatened to shoot him. Noah Stiner stepped in front of Scott in an attempt to calm Scott down. The victim turned to leave and was kicked in the lower back by Scott.
While Stiner attempted to get Scott to calm down and away from the victim, Stiner felt an object pushing against his body. Stiner later saw the wooden handgrips on a pistol that Scott had concealed on his person.
Scott continued to threaten the others and cause problems for the bartender. The bartender shut Scott off and told him to leave the Eagles. Security camera footage shows Scott as he is walking out, pull the revolver from the rear inside of his waistband and put it in his hand.
The victim filed a written complaint with the Eagles about Scott’s actions. When Scott returned to the Eagles on June 19 at 9 a.m., he was given a 90-day suspension. Scott got upset with this, crumpled up the letter and threw it. After this he had the confrontation with the first victim who is the manager of the Eagles at his home.
The second victim told police he felt that the threat Scott made was serious and that he feared for his life. The first victim also stated he was fearful of his safety and the safety of the other members of the Eagles.
Police looked into Scott’s criminal history and discovered he was convicted of a simple assault in a domestic violence case, which prohibits Scott from possessing a firearm.
