Reba H. Mollica, 93, of Clearfield died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014 at Marion Manor in Curwensville.
Born Oct. 27, 1921 in Washington, Ga., she was the daughter of Lois Jennings and Mamie D. (Nash) Head.
She was a 1939 graduate of Lyman Hall High School in Gainesville, Ga. She was the valedictorian of her high school class.
She is a graduate of Brenau College in Gainesville, Ga. She worked as an executive secretary in Georgia and also for Airplane Marine for five years.
Upon moving to Clearfield, she worked for the Clearfield County Unemployment Office. She was part owner of DuBois One-Hour Cleaners, where she did bookwork and was a seamstress. She was co-owner of the Dubois Bonanza/Ponderosa restaurant. She was employed by the Clearfield Area School District for 28 years as a library aide until retiring at age 83.
She was an amateur radio operator, #N3PUF. She was a life member of S.O.I 189, where she was also a former member of the Martha Washington Lodge/S.O.I 189. She had served as president of this organization.
On Nov. 11, 1945 in Dublin, Ga., she wed Samuel “Dutchie” Mollica, who preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Carl J. Mollica; a brother, Glen A. Head; an infant brother, Loy Head; and a sister, Inez Garner.
She’s survived by five children, Rebecca A. Hummel and her husband, Rick and Stephen J. Mollica, both of Clearfield, Nancy L. Hayes and her husband, Jon of Downingtown, Samuel J. Mollica III and his wife, Leah of DuBois and Claudia J. Russell and her husband, Bruce of Chester Springs.
She’s also survived by 10 grandchildren, Dr. Lynn Hummel Ed.D., Ann Hummel, Kathleen Peterson, Eric Hayes, Jennifer Hayes, Christina Peterson, Samantha Mollica, PFC Bruce Russell, Andrew Russell, Cara Russell; three great-grandchildren, Dante Peterson, Anthony Peterson, and Julian Hayes; and two brothers, M.L. Head and his wife, Artis of Flowery Branch, Ga. and Ervin W. Head and his wife, Kim of Gainesville, Ga.
Services for Mrs. Mollica will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with the Rev. Thomas Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Clearfield.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
