Hollywood, CA, United States (4E) – The world loses another comedian. Melissa Rivers, daughter of Joan Rivers who was recently hospitalized and placed on life support after losing consciousness during throat surgery, issues a statement about her mother passing away.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers,” the younger Rivers said. “She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.”
She goes on to share how the entire family is grateful for the massive support fans have shown through this.
“My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
The 81 year old comedienne was a co-host for Fashion Police for E! and was recently covering the MTV Video Music Awards and the Emmys, sharing her sartorial critiques with her trademark acerbic wit.
She was rushed to the hospital last August 28 where she was having surgery and suffered cardiac arrest. Last September 2, her daughter announced that her mother has been placed on life support.
