Washington, DC, United States (4E) – The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) made good its threat to behead another American journalist on Tuesday by posting a video of the decapitation of Steven Sotloff.
The video titled “A Second Message to America” announced by the terrorist monitoring group SITE Intelligence Group via Twitter showed Sotloff speaking while a knife-wielding ISIS fighter is beside him.
“Obama, your foreign policy of intervention in Iraq was supposed to be for preservation of American lives and interests, so why is it that I am paying the price of your interference with my life?” Sotloff, 31, said in the video, according to ABC News.
After the statement, the video showed the black-clad ISIS fighter saying that as long as U.S. missiles “continue to strike our people, our knife will continue to strike the necks of your people.”
The camera cuts and then shows Sotloff being killed.
The video ends with the militant threatening to kill British captive David Haines.
The video came out two weeks after ISIS posted online “A Message to America” that showed the beheading of American journalist James Foley. At the end of that video, Sotloff was shown being threatened with beheading if Obama fails to heed the demand of ISIS to stop attacks on its fighters in Iraq.
After Foley’s beheading, U.S. airstrikes on ISIS fighters in northern Iraq continued and helped Iraqi and Kurdish armies to retake towns under ISIS control. ISIS controls parts of northern Iraq and Syria calling the area Islamic State.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Tuesday officials are verifying the video.
Last week, Sotloff’s mother Shirley Sotloff released a video pleading with ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi not to kill her son.
Sotloff was covering the civil war in Syria when he disappeared last year. He then appeared in the video “A Message to America.”
