Pau Gasol shines as Spain routs Brazil in FIBA World Cup

Granada, Spain (4E Sports) – Pau Gasol tallied 26 points and nine boards to carry Spain to an 82-63 win over Brazil to improve to 3-0 in Group A of the FIBA World Cup Monday.

Sergio Rodriguez scored 12, Juan Carlos Navarro had 10 while Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol combined for just 13 points but anchored Spain’s defense, holding Brazil to 41 percent shooting.

Leandro Barbosa led Brazil with 11 points while Anderson Varejao had 10 points for the Brazilians, who suffered their first defeat in three games in Group A.

In other Group A action, Nemanja Bjelica recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds as Serbia (defeated Iran, 83-70.

With the win, Serbia improved to 2-1. Iran, which got 29 points from Hamed Haddadi, dropped to 0-3.

Meanwhile, Joffrey Lauvergne scored 12 points, Florent Pietrus had 11 while Kim Tillie and Antoine Diot added 10 points apiece as France (2-1) routed Egypt (0-3), 94-55.

In Group B, Nikos Zisis scored 19 points as Greece (3-0) stayed undefeated after beating Puerto Rico (0-3), 90-79.

Meanwhile Gorgui Dieng tallied 27 points and eight boards as Senegal (2-1) recorded defeated Croatia (2-1), 77-75, for its second straight win.

Luis Scola scored 19 points to carry Argentina (2-1) to an 85-81 win over winless Philippines (0-3).
