New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – Kentucky coach John Calipari believes that his former player, Anthony Davis, playing for Team USA in the 2014 FIBA World Cup, will be the best NBA player in four-to-five years.
Davis is wearing the national colors for the second time since his debut in for USA in 2010.
Calipari sees the Team USA stint for Davis as an avenue for the 21-year-old to improve his game.
“Right now, you look at (Davis) and say, ‘Man, in five years, he could be the best player in the NBA. And this USA Basketball stuff pushes that date sooner,” Calipari stated.
He added, “Again, here’s what it does for him: how to work, new things to add to his game, and confidence like, ‘These are the best in the world, so I’m all right.”
Davis’ coach in New Orleans and also an assistant for USA, Monty Williams, believes the same.
“Mentally, he has taken it up a few notches, and I think Coach K (Mike Krzyzewski) has been a big part of that, pushing him to be a leader, pushing him to be a guy on the team,” Williams said.
Davis led the Pelicans in scoring last season averaging 20.8 points with 10 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
