D.C. United rips Red Bulls with goals by Luis Silva, Eddie Johnson

Washington D.C., MD, United States (4E Sports) – Luis Silva and Eddie Johnson blasted in goals to lead D.C. United in toppling the New York Red Bulls, 2-0 Sunday at at RFK Memorial Stadium.

The scoreless deadlock was broken in the 52nd minute when goalkeeper Bill Hamid’s long ball was nodded on by Espindola to Silva, who slotted it home.

Lloyd Sam’s 84th minute cross to Saer Sene was was poked away by Hamid’s acrobatic split. Three minutes later, Tim Cahill took a crack from 20 yards but Hamid smothered that too.

In extra time, Johnson got a long ball from midfielder Perry Kitchen and deftly slammed the ball past goalkeeper Luis Robles.

The victory sealed for United the 2014 Atlantic Cup — the annual competition contested by United and New York
