Atlanta, GA, United States (NewsBahn) – Derrick Henry had a 19 yard touchdown run and Adam Griffith nailed all four field goals he attempted, powering No. 2 Alabama to a 33-22 win over West Virginia in both teams’ opener Saturday at Georgia Dome.
T.J. Yeldon racked up two scoring runs and 126 yards on 23 carries for the victors. Henry finished with 113 yards on the ground.
Clint Trickett completed 29 of 45 passes for 365 yards and a score for the Mountaineers, who tied the score at 17-17 on Mario Alford’s 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown with just under two minutes left n the opening half.
Griffith booted the second of his four field goals right before intermission to put the Tide up 20-17.
West Virginia was held to just 28 rushing yards on 24 carries, severely hurting its upset bid.
