Manila, NCR, Philippines (4E Sports) – Eight-division boxing champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao wants to hire Metta World Peace in the future for his basketball team.
Pacquiao, who is also a congressman, is venturing in to the world of Philippine pro-ball.
The 35-year-old athlete will be the playing coach of the KIA Sorentos in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
He was drafted 11th pick overall by KIA in the recently held PBA Draft.
Pacquiao told the press about his plans on hiring World Peace as his team’s future import.
“He’s okay. He’s my friend,” he stated through the Philippine Star.
Pacquiao added, “We need a good import. If we get him that would be nice.”
World Peace and Pacquiao met before his bout against Miguel Cotto in 2009.
The 6-foot-7 forward played for the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and the New York Knicks in his stint in the NBA.
He won a championship with the Lakers in 2010 and has a built reputation for his physicality.
Currently he is playing for the Sichuan Blue Whales in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) .
Meanwhile, Pacquiao is on tour promoting his bout against American boxer Chris Algieri in November.
