Hollywood, CA, United States (4E) – E! earned the biggest audience in 2 ½ years Tuesday night in the finale of the late-night comedy talk show “Chelsea Lately.”
The show’s live series-ender on Aug. 26 garnered 1 million viewers—about 498,000 of them from the 18-49 demo, skyrocketing the show to No. 5 on the ad-supported cable chart (sports not included).
In the final episode of the talk show, 61 celebrities gathered together for a farewell song dedicated to Handler. Hollywood A-listers such as Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Bullock, Allison Janney, Minnie Driver and Gerard Butler, and singers like Alanis Morissette, Richard Marx, Gwen Stefani, and Leann Rimes joined together for a musical number reminiscent of the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. To the tune of “We are the World,” Chelsea and the stars sang “”Roll Yourself a Joint and Have a Drink.”
“Chelsea Lately” debuted on July 16, 2007 and was produced by Borderline Amazing Productions, Handler’s production company. We will be seeing more of Handler, though. The comedienne is moving to the on-demand Internet streaming media, Netflix, with a new talk show and five comedy specials.
