Hollywood, CA, United States (4E) – It seems that the pretty little liars of Rosewood can’t get away from the menacing grasp of their still unidentified attacker, ‘A.’ Five seasons into the hit teen show based on the Young Adult series of novels by Sara Shepard and the lead characters are still no closer to resolving who is behind the sinister texts and events that continue to plague their characters.

Rumors surrounding the death of a central character sent fans abuzz in the weeks leading up to the recent summer season finale. And after the ABC finally aired the much anticipated episode, the fatal end of Mona Vanderwaal was unveiled. Played by series regular Janel Parrish, Mona meets a bloody and gruesome death on A’s hands while on the phone with Aria, played by Lucy Hale.

Her death came at the exact moment she was about to explain the truth behind Alison and another sighting of the mysterious character in a black hoodie (this time with blonde hair peeking through) was seen. Following a blood curling scream, Aria, Hanna and Emily arrive moments after to find her blood spattered home.

Mona’s character in the fictional town of Rosewood has experienced a rollercoaster ride, beginning with her rise to popularity after the disappearance of Alison DiLaurentis and the plot twist of her being A’s primary pawn in the quest to terrorize the main characters, making her the show’s first ‘A.’

Fans went on Twitter to discuss the loss of Mona on the Pretty Little Liars, but Parrish was quick to reassure fans that this doesn’t necessarily mean the end for her on the show.
