Pittsburgh, PA, United States (NewsBahn) – Ike Davis cracked a two-run homer in the second inning, helping the Pittsburgh Pirates take a 3-1 lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in a Wednesday matinee at PNC Park.
It marked Davis’ 10th homer of the season. Andrew McCutchen also knocked in his 71st run of the season for the Pirates.
Matt Holliday answered with a solo shot for the Cards.
Adam Wainright started for the Cardinals, while Jeff Locke took the bump for the Pirates and both were still pitching for their respective clubs halfway through the contest.
St. Louis is 71-60, while Pittsburgh came into the game 68-64.
