New York City, NY, United States (4E Sports) – CiCi Bellis, 15, became the youngest American player to win a U.S. Open match Mary Joe Fernandez in 1986 by beating No. 12 seed Dominika Cibulkova, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 at Flushing Meadows.

She is also the youngest to win a U.S. Open match since Russian Anna Kournikova in 1996.

However,  Bellis will be unable to claim her winnings of $60,420 as she is still an amateur.

It was just her 13th professional-level match and was making her WTA Tour debut and before Tuesday had never met a player ranked inside the top 100.

Bellis, a Californian, was awarded a wildcard into the US Open by winning the US under-18 championships.

Currently ranked 1,208, the Bellis played a few futures events in 2014, going 2-4 in the main draw and earning $799 in winnings.

She will move up approximately 800 spots and is expected to be ranked around No. 430 when they’re released after the U.S. Open.

Cibulkova has won four career titles and made over $1.1 million for his finals appearance in Melbourne alone, where she lost to Li Na. The Slovakian is currently ranked No. 13 in the world.
