Obafemi Martins’ two goals thrust Sounders past Timbers

Portland, OR, United States (4E Sports) – Obafemi Martins scored two goals as the Seattle Sounders topped the Portland Timbers, 4-2 Sunday at Providence Park.

Brad Evans rolled an unchallenged cross to a charging Martins for an easy tap-in goal in the 18th minute for a 1-0 Sounders lead.

Martins fed Dempsey who slotted the ball underneath Timbers goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts to double the Sounders lead in the 34th minute.

Chad Barrett netted a goal in the 70th-minute on a feed from Dempsey to make it 3-0.

Fanendo Adi received a long Rodney Wallace cross which he sent past Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei to cut the Timbers deficit to 3-1.

Obafemi Martins escaped five defenders before sending the ball past Ricketts to make it 4-1 for the Sounders in the 76th minute.

Adi collected his second goal of the game in 90th minute to settle the final score.
