London, England, United Kingdom (4E Sports) – Tottenham Hotspur scored three goals in the first half en route to a 4-0 thrashing of Queens Park Rangers in their Sunday’s Premier League clash at White Hart Lane.
Nacer Chadli gave the home side the lead 12 minutes in before Eric Dier followed up his goal at West Ham United on the opening weekend by netting the second.
Chadli added another goal eight minutes before the break for a commanding 3-0 lead before Emmanuel Adebayor made the result absolutely certain with a fourth goal in the 65th minute.
With the win, the Spurs grabbed a share of the Premier League lead with Chelsea and Swansea while QPR was left searching for its first points since returning to the top flight.
“We are very pleased. We are happy because we are in front of our supporters for the first game this season here,” Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino said.
“I told the players at half-time that, for me, the game is 0-0 and we need to win the second half, but 1-0 in the second half was good,” he added.
Harry Redknapp, who was dismissed by Spurs in 2012 despite guiding the club to three consecutive top-five finishes in the Premier League, handed debuts to Mauricio Isla and Leroy Fer.
“We didn’t play with enough energy and we looked off the pace a bit. In certain areas we weren’t sharp enough, we’ve got to work harder than that with and without the ball. Maybe one or two looked a bit slow,” Redknapp said.
Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal’s sputtering start to life at Manchester United continued as they drew 1-1 with Sunderland.
Manchester United took a 17th-minute lead through Juan Mata against the run of play but it failed to take advantage as an unmarked Jack Rodwell headed in a game-tying goal in the 30th minute to earn Sunderland a point.
United began its campaign with a 2-1 home defeat to Swansea City last week.
In the last match of the day, Stoke City and Hull City battled to a 1-1 draw at KC Stadium.
