Fever top Mystics with Tamika Catchings’ splendid performance

Washington, DC, United States (4E Sports) – The Indiana Fever won the opening-round playoff series with an overtime victory against the Washington Mystics, 81-76.

Tamika Catchings led the way for the Fever scoring 26 points.

It was a seesaw battle in the first quarter with the Fever closing it with the lead, 16-12.

The Fever started the scoring in the second quarter but the Mystics kept the game close.

Mystics guard Kara Lawson initiated the offense in the second quarter sinking a jumper then nailing a three-point shot to cut the lead 19-17.

Both teams had little trouble scoring but the Fever still had the lead at 30-27, going into the halftime break.

The Mystics rallied past the Fever in the third quarter, taking the lead at 53-51.

The game stayed close throughout the fourth as Fever guard Briann January drained two free-throws to send the game into overtime, 66-66.

In the overtime period, Catchings was all over the floor scoring, passing and rebounding.

She also made the final two attempts from the charity stripe to seal the deal in overtime and cinch the series.

Catchings also had 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals to lead the Fever.

Teammate Briann January collected 13 points and 7 assists and Maggie Lucas scored 10 points.

Meanwhile Lawson chipped in 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in a losing effort for the Mystics.
