Dexter McCoil’s touchdowns lift Eskimos over Argos

Edmonton, AB, Canada (4E Sports) – Dexter McCoil had a pair of touchdowns as the Edmonton Eskimos toppled the Toronto Argonauts, 41-27 Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.

Ricky Ray spotted Jason Barnes for a 17-yard touchdown to put the Argonauts up 7-0.

Kendial Lawrence then jetted through the middle of the Argos’ defense for a 61-yard touchdown run to tie the game.

Matt Nichols hit AJ Guyton who split a pair of Argos defenders for a 48-yard touchdown to give the Eskimos a 14-7 lead.

A field goal by Grant Shaw put the Eskimos up 17-7 before Odell Willis snuffed out an attempted screen pass from Ray to Owens.

As Willis was about to get tackled, he pitched the ball to Dexter McCoil who ran for a touchdown to make it a 24-7 Eskimos lead.

Nichols dumped the ball to Lawrence for 15 yards before Pat White drove off with a quarterback sweep touchdown from five yards out to pt the Eskimos up 31-7.

The Argonauts added a field goal to cut the Eskimos lead to 31-10 at halftime.

After an interception by Brandon Underwood, Ray found Owens for a 29 yard gain, setting up a 22-yard Swayze Waters field goal to make it 31-13.

The Argos had another field goal to close in at 31-16 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter.

An 11-yard touchdown pass from Ray to Owens cut the Eskimo lead down to eight, 31-23.

JC Sherritt pounced on an Argos fumble with 10:41 remaining to set the Eskimos at the 30 yard line, but it could only muster a Grant Shaw field goal to put the lead to 34-24.

Ray connected with Steele for three consecutive first down runs before finding Mike Bradwell for 12 yards.

A field goal by Waters cut the Eskimos lead to 34-27 with under two minutes left.

But Ray later looked for Barnes who slipped on the play and the ball went to McCoil for another touchdown to settle the final score.
