Winston-Salem, NC, United States (4E Sports) – Belgian qualifier David Goffin extended his unbeaten run to 25 matches and advanced to the quarterfinal of the Winston-Salem Open via a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over 15th seed Jarkko Nieminen Thursday.

Goffin, undefeated since a first-round loss at Wimbledon, also beat Nieminen last month in Tampere to claim his third straight ATP Challenger Tour title.

He capped off the four-week stretch by winning his first ATP World Tour title in Kitzbuhel, and then returned to action this week, qualifying for the Winston-Salem Open.

“It was a tough match today against Jarkko,” he said. “It was a great fight and I’m really happy the way I played at the end to win this match.

Goffin looks to extend his winning streak when he meets Jerzy Janowicz, who reached his third quarterfinal of the season after beating 12th seed Edouard Roger-Vasselin, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

On the women’s side, Camila Giorgi stunned four-time champion Caroline Wozniacki, 6-4, 6-2, in the second round of the Connecticut Open.

The 38th-ranked Giorgi, who fashioned out the win in just 78 minutes, also also beat Wozniacki at last year’s U.S. Open.
