Guillermo del Toro’s Hit Show ‘The Strain’ Gets Renewed

Hollywood, CA, United States (4E) – Few generations have given the concept of aliens, zombies and vampires more enthusiasm for this one; which made the announcement of Guillermo del Toro’s FX show The Strain a welcome addition to everyone’s viewing schedules.

Much to the delight of fans around the globe is the announcement of the hit series’ second season renewal.

“We’ve never had any doubts about ‘The Strain,’” said John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions. “Working with Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse, and the brilliant cast led by Corey Stoll has been everything we had hoped it would be and more. It is thrilling when you have a show that is a creative and commercial hit, which is a rare accomplishment in this increasingly crowded marketplace. We look forward having it on FX for as long as Carlton, Guillermo and Chuck Hogan need to tell this epic tale.”

The Strain is premised on a mysterious and supernatural virus that is slowly taking over New York City. With 12.7 million total viewers, it earns the title of being the most-watched series ever premiered by FX. It is also the pioneer drama series solely produced by FX Prods.

Del Toro, known for his film work that includes blockbuster hits such as Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy and Pacific Rim directed the pilot episode of The Strain and co-wrote the books tha the TV series is based on.

The Strain airs every Sunday at 10PM on FX and stars Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Mia Maestro, Jonathan Hyde and Sean Astin.

The 13-episode second season is expected to air next summer.
