Regina, SK, Canada (4E Sports) – Darian Durant made 19 of 30 passes for 220 yards and one touchdown as the Saskatchewan Roughriders held off the Montreal Alouettes, 16-11 Saturday at Mosaic Stadium.

John Chick forced a fumble and registered his three sacks for the win while Jerome Messam led the Riders in rushing with 54 yards on 10 carries

Field goals by Riders’ Chris Milo and Als’ Sean Whyte tied the game at 4-all.

In the second half, a punt single by Josh Bartel put the Riders up 5-4.

Then Durant found Rob Bagg for a 30-yard touchdown to put the Riders up 12-4.

With less than five minutes remaining, Chris Milo’s field goal attempt sailed wide.

That allowed Duron Carter to return the kick and carry the ball for 122 yards and a touchdown to cut the Als deficit to 12-10.

Als head coach Tom Higgins elected to kick the single point with Whyte converting that made it 12-11, rather than attempt a two-point convert that could have tied the score.

Bartel’s third punt single of the game gave the Riders a 13-11 lead with 2:16 left.

The Riders defence made timely stops with just over a minute remaining to douse the Als rally.

Afterwards, Milo hit a 31-yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining for the final score.

Als quarterback Alex Brink completed his first five passes for 61 yards, and also carried the ball once for a gain of eight.
