Girl, 3, killed in police-suspect shootout

Camp Springs, MD, United States (4E) – A three-year-old girl was killed inside a car during a shootout between a man who shot two people and police chasing him in Camp Springs, Maryland on Saturday.

The suspect, who was fleeing on a car, was killed during a second exchange of gunfire with police and the girl was later found inside the car badly wounded. She was taken to a hospital but died there later.

An investigation is ongoing to determine how the girl was killed or from whose gun killed her.

Earlier, the male suspect shot and critically wounded the girl’s grandfather and great grandmother in Temple Hills leading to the chase, according to Prince George County Police spokesman Lt. Bill Alexander.

The suspect fled the scene on a Nissan Maxima but was stopped by police. He exchanged gunfire with police and managed to drive off again.

Police stopped him for the second time and another shootout ensued killing him and the young occupant inside the car. Six police officers engaged the suspect.
