Montreal, QC, Canada (4E Sports) – Marco Di Vaio’s 84th minute goal lifted the Montreal Impact over the Chicago Fire, 1-0 Saturday at Stade Saputo.
The first half saw both teams fail to put a single shot on target.
The Fire created the best chance of the half that way with Lovel Palmer’s low cross that handcuffed goalkeeper Evan Bush before he made the save.
In the 80th minute, the Fire’s Sanna Nyassi broke through on the left, but Hassoun Camara recovered to stop him.
The scoreless deadlock was broken after Maxim Tissot’s pass to rookie Eric Miller bounced for Di Vaio, who finished past Sean Johnson.
The Impact (4-14-5, 17 pts), who stayed at the bottom of the East, finally snapped a seven-game losing streak. The Fire (4-6-13, 25 pts) remains in ninth place.
