South Williamsport, PA, United States (4E Sports) – Juan Garza’s all-around performance lifted Mexico to a 4-3 win over Canada Friday in the Little League World Series at Volunteer Stadium.
Garza hit an RBI double and allowed just two hits and had nine strikeouts in four innings as the Mexicans advanced against the winner of the Venezuela-Japan showdown.
Luis Rodriguez also made his mark after he hit a tiebreaking two-run shot in the third inning for a 3-1 lead.
Then, Garza hit a run-scoring double in the fifth to give the Mexicans a three-run cushion that was enough to fend off the Canadians’ late comeback.
Joseph Sinclair’s efforts for Canada went down the drain with the loss. He pitched 4 1/3 frames, with five strikeouts, and had two hits for the Canadians.
