United Kingdom (4E) – Police have searched Sir Cliff Richard’s penthouse apartment in Berkshire Thursday morning in connection to an alleged historical sex offense that involved a boy under 16.

The allegation recently reported to the police relates to a sexual assault in 1985 at the time when American evangelist Billy Graham appeared at Bramall Lane, Sheffield.

The South Yorkshire force assisted by the Thames Valley Police sent eight plain-clothed police officers in five unmarked cars who executed a five-hour search of the property.

Sir Cliff, who was not presently in the UK, says in a statement:

“The allegations are completely false. Up until now I have chosen not to dignify the false allegations with a response, as it would just give them more oxygen. However, the police attended my apartment in Berkshire today without notice, except it would appear to the press. I am not presently in the UK but it goes without saying that I will co-operate fully should the police wish to speak to me. Beyond stating that today’s allegation is completely false it would not be appropriate to say anything further until the police investigation has concluded.”

The police however made it clear that the investigation was in its “really early stages”.
