Seattle, WA, United States (4E Sports) – Kyle Seager and Kendrys Moralesblasted solo homers as the Seattle Mariners toppled the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-3 Tuesday at Safeco Field.
The Blue Jays took a first inning lead on a Melky Cabrera RBI double. Austin Jackson singled to center in the third to bring home Logan Morrison to tie the game at 1-1.
Then Seager’s homer gave the Mariners a 2-1 lead in the fourth before Dustin Ackley added a two-run single an inning later to plate Chris Taylor and Jackson.
Morales’ homer in the sixth made it 5-1 in the Mariners favor.
Bautista’s run-scoring double and Nolan Reinold’s sacrifice fly in the eight brought the Blue Jays within 5-3.
An error by relief pitcher Aaron Loup scored James Jones in the bottom of the eighth gave the Mariners an insurance run.
Mariners starter Chris Young (11-6) retired 14 straight batters and struck out three while allowing two hits and walking two in six innings.
Charlie Furbush notched four outs for the Mariners and Francisco Rodney pitched the ninth for his 33rd save.
Jays starter J.A. Happ (8-7) gave up seven hits and struck out only one in six innings after recording 12 strikeouts in his last start.
The win propeled the Mariners over .500 at home and tied the M’s with the Detroit Tigers for the second wild-card spot in the American League.
