Matt Ryan’s touchdown drive lifts Falcons over Dolphins

Atlanta, GA, United States (4E Sports) – Matt Ryan led the Atlanta Falcons’ first possession to a touchdown in toppling the Miami Dolphins, 16-10 Friday at Georgia Dome in a preseason opener.

A six-yard pass by Dolphins starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill to Brandon Gibson gave the Dolphins the an initial 7-0 lead.

Ryan completed each of his seven attempts for 53 yards on the Falcons’ opening drive, capped by Jacquizz Rodgers’ two-yard run to tie the game with 44 seconds left in the first.

Dolphins kicker Danny Hrapmann booted a 42-yarder, while Falcons’ Matt Bryant answered with a 21-yard field goal to tie the game at 10 in the second quarter.

Led by Sean Renfree’s drives, Sergio Castillo added field goals of 21 and 34 yards in the third and fourth as the Dolphins broke away for the victory.

Yates is the favorite to win the job as Ryan’s top backup against Sean Renfree.

Falcons rookie running back Devonta Freeman had 10 carries for 50 yards and one catch for 57 yards. Another rookie, Bernard Reedy, caught two passes for 61 yards.

Tannehill went 6 for 6 for 62 yards while Dolphins rookie quarterback Seth Lobato completed 14 of 28 passes for 124 yards.
