New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – Carlos Beltran drove in five runs as the New York Yankees outplayed the Cleveland Indians, 10-6 Friday at Yankee Stadium.
The Indians went up 1-0 with a Carlos Santana single before the Yankees answered with five straight runs in the bottom of the first.
Derek Jeter tied Honus Wagner for sixth place on the career list with his 3,430th hit before a Beltran single sent him home to tie the game.
A Chase Headley bases-loaded walk plated Jacoby Ellsbury before Stephen Drew and Martin Prado connected with RBI singles.
Then a throwing error by Jason Kipnis sent Headley home to give the Yankees a 5-1 lead.
The Indians answered with an RBI single by David Murphy to cut their deficit to 5-2.
It seemed to arouse the Yankees as Beltran blasted a Grand Slam in the bottom sixth to expand their lead to 9-2.
Then Francisco Cervelli scored via a fielder’s choice and throwing error by Indians shortstop Jose Ramirez.
A run scoring double by Santana and a Murphy sacrifice fly in the seventh helped the Indians close in at 10-6.
Yankees starter Esmil Rogers (2-0) held the Indians to a run on four hits in five innings.
Indians starter Trevor Bauer (4-7) was charged with five runs and six hits in three and 1/3 innings.
