Inglewood, CA, United States (4E) – Beyonce will take the stage at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards as a performer and this year’s recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, it was announced Thursday.
The said award is given to “exemplary musicians who have made an incredible and long-lasting impact on pop culture,” a bill which Beyonce fits, as she is not just a singer-songwriter, but an overall entertainer and also a philanthropist.
Queen Bey has taken over the world since her days as member of the now defunct girl group Destiny’s Child until she launched her solo career, releasing chart-topping hits and albums after another, gathering one well-deserved award after another.
Beyonce joins the line of previous Vanguard Award recipients such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, R.E.M., the Beastie Boys, and, most recently, Justin Timberlake.
Meanwhile, aside from the Vanguard award, Beyonce has been nominated for eight more categories including Video of the Year and Best Collaboration for “Drunk in Love,” which also features her husband Jay Z.
This is the fifth time that Beyonce is performing at the VMAs, hitting the stage in 2003, 2006, 2009, and 2001, where she announced that she was carrying her first child, Blue Ivy, now two years old.
The 2014 MTV Video Music Awards will be held at the Forum in Inglewood, California on Sunday, August 24, at 9 p.m. E.T.
