Cleveland, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Former all-star Shawn Marion was spotted with Cleveland Cavaliers officials Monday to discuss a possible deal with the team.
The Cavs are trying to sign the 2011 NBA champion to add versatility and experience to the squad.
Marion considered other options after the Dallas Mavericks signed Jameer Nelson and Chandler Parsons in the off-season.
This left the Mavs offering Marion a league-minimum deal, which he reportedly rejected.
Although the Cavs will also be offering him the league-minimum, playing alongside LeBron James will surely be a major factor.
Cavs GM David Griffin has strong ties with Marion and this may persuade him to sign with the team.
In the wake of the Paul George injury, the Indiana Pacers expressed their interest in Marion.
But LeBron’s presence in Cleveland may give the Cavs the upper hand in perhaps landing Marion.
In previous years, Marion became a defensive stalwart and was a key factor for the Mavericks’ 2011 title run.
If the deal pushes through, Marion will be playing with LeBron, Kyrie Irving, and Anderson Varejao.
In his final season with the Mavs last year, Marion averaged 10.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals.
