Kansas City, KS, United States (4E Sports) – San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey will miss the incoming season due to torn biceps suffered at practice Friday.
Dorsey, 29, will have surgery Monday.
Considered a bust with the Kansas City Chiefs as a defensive end, the 6-foot-1, 297-pound Dorsey has thrived as a nose tackle for the 49ers after Ian Williams was injured.
Dorsey totaled 41 tackles and tied a career high with two sacks in the first year of a two-year deal he signed with the 49ers last March.
He also provided an anchor in the middle to create opportunities for defensive end Justin Smith and outside linebackers Aldon Smith and Ahmad Brooks.
Second-year player Quinton Dial and Williams are expected to take over for Dorsey.
The 49ers could also play their defensive ends such as Tony Jerod-Eddie and Justin Smith into the defensive tackle positions.
