Minneapolis, MN, United States (4E Sports) – Maya Moore scored 20 and Seimone Augustus added 19 to propel the Minnesota Lynx past the Phoenix Mercury, 75-67 Thursday at Target Center.
The Mercury led for most of the first quarter until Tan White’s 3-pointer put the Lynx ahead 10-8.
The Lynx ended the opening quarter with an 11-0 run to go up 21-10 and take the lead for good.
Penny Taylor erupted for five straight points midway in the second to trigger a 9-0 Mercury blast to cut their deficit to 31-30.
The Mercury closed to in within a point at 39-38 early in the third and 52-51 before the start of the final quarter, but the Lynx pulled away on those occassions.
Moore hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Seimone Augustus had back-to-back baskets for a 10-2 run that opened up a 66-54 Lynx advantage.
Diana Taurasi’s jumper with 1:28 to play pulled the Mercury within 69-65 before the Lynx finished them off with a 6-2 blast.
Brittney Griner scored 18 points to lead the Mercury (22-4), who saw their 16-game winning streak come to an end.
The teams have clinched the top two spots in the West and home-court advantage in the first round.
